LB127 Homework 02/11/10   Euan McAleece.

Running order for “Front Row” Radio 4 04/11/10 7.15pm Hosted by Mark Lawson.

Intro
Mark reads a brief summary of the items to be included in the programme. 
Treatment
Recorded in studio.  1 min in length.

Item 1

Mark talks to Indianapolis designer Austin Radcliffe about his pictorial blog thingsorganizedneatly.tumblr.com which has become a recent Internet phenomenon.
He discusses how his blog has been such a successful platform for his designs and photography and how it enables him to have direct but non-linear communication with his audience.

Treatment
Mark will outline Austin’s tumblr (sic) blog describing its success as one of the most viewed photography and design blogs on the net.  This will link into a pre-recorded interview with Austin, edited to an appropriate length.  Mark will suggest to listeners to visit the Front Row website for more information. This item will be four minutes.

Item 2

Following Hollywood remakes of recent Swedish films such as “Let The right One In” and “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo”, Mark is joined in the studio by Mark Kemode and the director of the Hollywood remake “Let me In” Matt Reeves. To discuss the notion that American and British audiences are being given poor Hollywood imitations, of truly innovative European cinema.   

Treatment

Mark will preface the item with an audio clip of the forthcoming US film “Let me In” and introduce Mark kermode and the film’s Director Matt Reeves. He will then lead an in depth discussion about the worthiness of Hollywood remakes, steering the debate to look at the history of remakes. What do the Hollywood studios get from them?  How do audiences in the US and the UK compare and contrast over remakes and what is their artistic merit. This item will be 10 minutes in length and will be recorded as live and edited to fit.

Item 3

The next item will be a short introduction and discussion, about up and coming conceptual artist Will Trimble. Mark will discuss his new installation piece “The Credit Crunch and You” with the Sunday Telegraphs art critic Andrew Graham Dixon.  

Treatment

This will be a short item to introduce Will’s past work and a critical discussion about his latest installation.
The item will be five minutes.


Item 4

Mark will then introduce the next two items, which look into an issue that did not go away with the end of the cold war. Nuclear weapons! 
Mark speaks to John Savage from the Guardian about his recent exploration into the atomic ages pop culture fall out. On the back of a five disc release called “Cold War Music from the Golden Age of Homeland Security”, which looks at 5 decades of Atomic inspired pop music. Mark asks the question; are nuclear weapons still an inspiration to popular musicians today?

Treatment
Two audio clips from the CD will be used, the first a short clip from a Public service announcement, and the second “Atomic” by Blondie. These will be edited to both be 30 seconds segued into each other. There will then be a pre-recorded interview with Mark asking John about the new release and asking him the question, are nuclear weapons still an inspiration to popular musicians today?
This item will be five minutes in length.

Item 5

Following this Mark will interview Lucy Walker the director of the forthcoming documentary “Countdown to Zero” he will discuss the films agenda and ask Lucy if thinks that disarmament of the world’s nuclear arsenal could ever be achieved.  He will then do a critique of the documentary, focusing on how it could be perceived as UScentric.

Treatment
This will be a Four minute item with a short pre-recorded interview and a short clip from the documentary. Mark will then do a short critique of the documentary in the studio. The audio clip will link the interview to the critique.

Mark will then suggest to listeners to go to the Front Row website for further information and to join in online discussions about the items in the show. He will then do a promo for the next show.
